Design beyond the screen

In project Beyond (the screen) I worked on designing a solution for a complex problem. The focus of this project was on the interaction with computers and sensors that are incorporated into everyday objects and the environment around us. This was my first experience with research based design, which I have applied to most projects since. I used a variety of researh tactics, including the following;

Literature research, field research (interviews, observation, surveys), stepping stones (persona, customer journey, context map, morphological map, storyboarding).

A big focus of this project was teamwork. There was an assessment halfway through the process to evaluate the functionality of our team, and we all had some issues to discuss. While this was confronting, it proved really useful for future projects. Because of this dysfunctional teamwork, which was mostly a lack of motivation, I learned how to motivate different people with different approaches. There are reasons that motivate one team member, but does nothing to the other. Some need external motivation, others need internal motivation.

This is a physical prototype I made out of lego using an arduino with a distance sensor and a ledstrip to convey the working of the concept:
